Ward 8 families deserve to be able to live, work, and enjoy their local communities in a safe environment. Unfortunately, residents of this district do not feel safe, and homicides are occurring at an alarming rate, particularly among our youth. To improve public safety, it is imperative that the root causes of violence are addressed and those responsible for harm are held accountable.

Young people in Ward 8 should be empowered and supported during their transition to adulthood and in becoming positive contributors to their community.  A healthy and safe environment is essential for our youth to believe they can achieve their goals. 

Every child in Ward 8—and across D.C.—deserves a safe, high-quality public education, no matter their ZIP code, race, income, or background. As your Councilmember, I’m committed to making sure every student gets the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed—because equity in education can’t wait.

Whether you live in Bellevue or Navy Yard, every Ward 8 resident deserves safe, clean, and affordable housing—with a clear path to homeownership for those who choose it.

By fostering economic development in Ward 8, we can create a foundation for long-term success and prosperity for future generations. Achieving this vision requires strengthening existing businesses and offering consistent technical support to new ones, empowering them to grow and contribute to the community's revitalization.

Ensuring the health and well-being of mothers is critical to building strong families and a thriving community. Too many women in Ward 8 face barriers to quality maternal care, leading to preventable complications and poorer health outcomes.

Readily available fresh, healthy, and affordable food is a basic right. As the Ward 8 Councilmember I am committed to advancing food equity by proposing to fully fund and expand key initiatives that address hunger and support local communities.
